- Stonetown buildings are a vintage but lacks maintenance, it makes the area look a bit untidy. Also the rusted roofing or corrugated sheets makes the aaerial view not beautiful. Painting them and the buildings will bring an added beauty to the image of stonetown.

Friendly people with a lot of places to visit.
However there is a lack of food prices diversity. Most good food is somehow expensive and the cheapest food was bad.
However my favourite place to eat during evening was at the small restaurant near the Mkunazini Anglican Cathedral where delicious rice dishes are served.
Couples can enjoy the tours to Prison Island and around Stone town

I sailed as a sea captain all around the island, including Pemba island. I spent here almost 2 months altogether. From tourist places, I liked Nungwi beaches. You have to know, most of tourist resorts are situated outside of local civilization. If you want to go shopping or to the local restaurant, you need to order a taxi everytime and the prices are high. The food and alcohol is quite expensive even for europeans. The locals are kind, although sometimes annoying if they are selling something. I felt absolutely safe, more than in EU. Traffic in the inlands is terrible, try to avoid travelling on these roads. Negotiate the price (taxi etc) before drive. They are able to ask 50 USD for 3 kilometres of ride after. If I could decide, I would try another exotic islands. Zanzibar needs 5-10 years to improve the services for tourist, infrastructure etc.

Navigating Zanzibar City was surprisingly easy, with an array of transportation options available. The compact size of the city made it convenient to explore on foot, with many attractions within walking distance of each other. I would definitely suggest trying the local Swahili food for fresh fish and seafood.
For a visitor from South Africa, I found the price of food and drinks at restaurants relatively expensive.
Hotel outside area was nice, restaurant was pretty in evenings (needed more lighting at restaurant). Beach was nice but didn’t look like pictures on Booking.com. Comfy loungers. Large bed and spacious room. Aircon and Wi-Fi worked well. Hotel was close to airport and 10 min drive from stone town. Locals were nice on the beach. The cats were super friendly and looked like they were looked after. Pool was nice. Manager asked us for our opinion on hotel before leaving and listened to our considerations which was nice.
We stayed at the hotel after our flight from France as we felt it was useless to drive one hour to our holiday destination late in the evening. The hotel is located two minutes drive away from the airport. Staff was very welcoming and pleasant, room comfortable with a very nice bed, great bathroom with italien walk in shower, nice terrasse and pool area. A great hotel for a night after or before your flight or if you want a modern hotel in Zanzibar city with easy access to Stone town. Very good value for money.
Large hotel on the beach in Stone Town. You can walk EVERYWHERE! This is a large hotel with many different buildings. The hotel works like a well oiled machine. Staff is friendly and efficient. The GM is always available and goes out of his way to assist. Rooms are large with aircon, fans, fridge, satellite TV, coffee station, hairdryer. Large bathroom.
The swimming pool is the best and cool!! Breakfast is interesting. Pls note this is a dry hotel.
The room was very nice, especially the bathroom. The location was perfect, in the middle of Stone Town, next to the Old Fort. Food was really good, especially the breakfast! The pool on the rooftop was the best after our Safaritrip. The view from the rooftop above the city is wonderful. We also had the possibility to leave our luggage in a luggage room after check out. We would definitely recommend this hotel for your short stay in Stone Town!
The Hotel is well located in the heart of Stone Town. Our room was nice and spacious, so was the bathroom. Everything clean. There is a nice little pool, perfect for a quick refresh after exploring the city. The roof terrace is very nice, food was really good, although we didn‘t have breakfast as our flight was too early in the morning. Staff was nice and friendly, can totally recomend this place for a stay in Stone town.
The location is amazing, right on the beach, so great for people-watching. The hotel is big, but not too big so it feels very cozy! The staff were incredibly nice, everyone from the concierge to the room service, to the guards, to the waiters - everyone!
The pool is lovely, but my absolute favorite was the 200-year-old mango tree. If you don't stay here, at least come for drinks and a look at this beautiful tree!
Perfect location on the beach in Stone Town with all the amenities you need. The staff were very helpful. The decor is lovely and we enjoyed two pools. The breakfast selection was expansive. We had a big family room in a nearby building with a bathroom that was huge. On the last day, we stored our bags at the hotel while we did a morning tour of Prison Island. Great place to stay.
The hotel is right at the center. It was very easy to get around however the check in process took some time but the staff were very helpful. The lunch chicken biryani meal at the restaurant was super 👌. It was my first time in stone town so I was alittle scared of security but Faisah at the reception was very helpful in getting me guides to shop for spices.
Every aspect of this property is an absolute delight. The location is within very easy access to the ferry terminal, to a multitude of sightseeing, restaurants, shops, beach access, walking areas. The hotel restaurant is right in the pool and garden grounds area. It's a quiet, cool oasis within the city. Restoration of this historic property is impeccable.
really excellent location right on ‘jaws corner’ but still spacious enough rooms and private bathroom - valuable commodity for this price range in stone town! staff were friendly and housekeeping staff were particularly accommodating and did a great job. the hotel has a rooftop bar which has well priced food and drink as well as a good breakfast.
Beautiful and original, colonial style hotel located perfectly on the beach road. Very friendly and accommodating staff. The price was reasonable and well worth
As we were leaning for the airport late in the evening we were very pleased we were allowed to stay at the pool and use all hotel facilities even if we had checked out. Will be back.
In Stone Town it is difficult to find a quiet hotel/guesthouse at a budget-friendly price. Retro offers that! It's next to a hospital grounds, so it's quiet and surrounded by lots of greenery. It is a very charming interior (main hall, breakfast room, entrance area)! The room itself was decent, no modern amenities but functional incl. wifi.
First time staying in a hostel. I’d say it’s pretty decent, the price is fair, the location is right in the middle where you could walk for 3 mins to get to the beach and walking distance to other attractions in stone town. The bed is spacious and has outlet and lights. Has locker and female-only room.
This hotel is right in stone town so good location to explore. The staff made us feel special with rose petals and room decorated after informing them of our engagement
The rooftop was lovely to see sunset and good drinks
The breakfast was really good!
Security on door
Perfect location in Stone Town with an amazing breakfast that you get on the rooftop terrace. The whole atmosphere of the hotel is very nice and most of the staff is very nice and friendly. Particularly Heerna was very helpful in organising tours for us.
The hotel is really nice as style! In a good position to visit stone town and to go with boat to prison island and nakupenda!
The transfer from/to airport was really good!
It is really close to a beautiful restaurant on the beach!
Beautiful historical hotel, the swimming pools are great. The location is amazing right on the beach and in the middle of Stonetown, lots to do within walking distance. Breakfast was good. Balcony overlooking the pool is amazing.
The hotel was centrally located and on the beach, so it gives the opportunity also to relax at the beach. Plus, there are 2 swimming pool. Everything is well kept , food is good, staff is helpful.
check in was very fast and smooth. the staff were amazing and helpful, our stay was very comfortable check out was very fast
