Very scenic, lots of interesting things to do on the midlands meander. Must see Ardmore ceramic gallery, must try blueberry cheesecake at Blueberry cafe … and visit their bathroom for an amazing experience 😃

Scenic drives.
Scenic drives. Many restaurants from which to choose and a variety of shops with many locally produced goods. A couple of nice pubs with home brewed beer. Use the Midlands Meander numbered guide and map, and avoid dirt roads that are out of the way

they have a long list of good places to visit with good food served on various restaurants, this is a good place to unwind away from the City life. Really enjoy their wine farms, with variety of things sold that are required by everyone of the family- food, ice cream sale, coffee, light meals, pizza, factory shops

We had the worst experience and we were treated so badly and we were also spoken to in a very rude manner. The guest who were close to our tent confirmed they slept peacefully even though we were forced to pay for some guests who supposedly left because of our noise levels. No communication was made to even make us aware that we were disturbing the neighbours that particular night. We couldn't even have a proper conversation with the owners as she was already on a level that was impossible! We were utterly disappointed to say the least with such treatment

We chose the venue for our anniversary.
We chose the venue for our anniversary. From the start, Michael communicated with me on email, arranged a special set up for the first night and assisted in arranging for a round of golf.
On arriving the staff were professional and friendly. Special mention to the reception team and their head chef Innocent, who went out of his way to make a special dinner and breakfast for us.
The facility was great, rooms were comfortable and the location was tranquil. there were great places to visit in and around the area and we made the the most of exploring the areas, stopping at artisan coffee shops and spa facilities.
The only negative aspect I can mention is the first morning where the buffet breakfast was average. However for the remainder of the stay, due to minimal guests, we ordered breakfasts and it was exceptional.
I would highly recommend Bosch Hoek in Balgowan.

It is definitely on of our favourite places in South Africa, there are plenty of quaint little shops, amazing restaurants, and the scenery is breathtaking. We visit La Lampara restaurant every time we come to the Midlands, which is at least once a year, our trip would not be complete if we didn't, the place, the food, the atmosphere, the owners are such lovely people, you have to go there.
We love the thoughtful decor throughout the lodge which enhances the comfort of the surroundings. There are many walks one can do on the property and it is well situated to explore the many options available in the Midlands. The breakfast options are more than enough for the most fussy of visitor. Although the property is less than 500m from the busy N3 highway one is never aware of the traffic noise from the road at all.
The owner very kindly let me stay in my room until my driver came to pick me up, free of charge, for a few hours and also extended a bit of the breakfast bar timing for me as well! They were also very prompt in accomodating a late meal for when I arrived (which was delicious and the first time ever having malva pudding!) and also ensured my safety as a lone traveller by repeatedly checking in on me enroute to the the hotel.
Main reception area and communal rooms were all very nice. Staff were lovely particularly Greg who we enjoyed talking to. Breakfast was good and we ate in the evenings as well. Basic bistro fare but cooked well and reasonably priced for a hotel. Loved the Spa! Again very reasonably priced and the ladies were very professional. Gardens very well maintained.
Koos and Lorraine are fantastic hosts with attention to detail given to each communal area (eg Christmas decorations everywhere).
Breakfast was fantastic - Lorraine really paid attention to our requests; the options available are wonderful.
The lodge is centrally located and nearby Nottingham Road
We really enjoyed our stay at this tranquil place. The hosts were incredibly helpful and friendly. The beds were comfy! My 2 year old loved the outside play area and there were toys as well in the main house. What a lovely cosy place if you are looking for a weekend escape to the Midlands.
Breakfast was excellent - best to get there early!
I was in Balgowan for the weekend Michaelhouse 125 anniversary, so I literally used Gowan Valley for Breakfast and bed and was out the rest of the time.
I loved the location, the views, the staff who really go out of their way to ensure that you are comfortable , and the dinning options. There's always something magical about a stay in the midlands.
The self catering cottage is private and perfect for couples. We even had our own private entrance and parking space. Cottage was neat and tidy. Luke was very friendly and welcoming.
Beautiful view, comfy cabins located in the heart of the Natal Midlands. The Water pressure in the shower was AMAZING and hot water came fast. Snug little place we really enjoyed.
