Dalston village is beautiful, but Carlisle Town, what we saw of it was uninspiring and unattractive.
Lots of road works , confusing road systems and busy. Not a bit like the other lake district towns.
Perhaps we hadn't seen the best of it to be fair.

Quite an underrated town.
Quite an underrated town. The castle and cathedral are very interesting, plenty of history to see. I like it most because you can quite easily travel to fantastic locations from all directions; Hadrian's wall & Newcastle to the East, Ribblehead & the Lake district to the South, the scenic Cumbrian coast to the West & the Historic Southern lowlands of Scotland to the North!

Carlisle is so full of history I love the buildings eg the Cathedral, the Castle, the Citadel which is going to transformed into a university campus. The little streets are very interesting could have spent more time exploring.

Convenience as a base to visit more of Cumbria.
Convenience as a base to visit more of Cumbria. If like me you don't drive its good to have a base with plenty of public transport to enable you to see a variety of places. Carlisle itself is easy to walk round, everything within walking distance.

I love Carlisle!
I love Carlisle!
It’s a great town with good shopping, history and nightlife
The bars and restaurants are wonderful and it’s very friendly
There is plenty of parking, it’s compact and interesting
My favourites are The Thin White Duke for drinks/food and Bocata bar for live music, atmosphere and great drinks
a last minute booking as we wanted to start our drive from Scotland to Devon a night earlier. We normally stay at a PI located just off the M6 in Carlisle. on searching for availability this hotel popped up. it was like dream come true. less than 10 minutes off the M6, a very comfortable room with excellent shower. The restaurant on site (under different ownership) was great. we enjoyed a delicious Crab Salad and Lobster & Fries main. very pleasant staff.
The restaurant was exceptional. We chose to dine there both nights we stayed at the property, no need to look elsewhere. The staff were professional and friendly. While the grounds are under a complete renovation, we understand the value of temporary inconvenience, longterm improvement, and hope to see the results when we return.
If you're a golfer, the Carlisle Golf Club is minutes away. Do your self a favor and book a tee time. A real gem
Really comfortable house, everything we needed, really nicely decorated and fitted out. Good communication with host. Lock box for key useful as our ETA was uncertain. Parked directly outside front door. Tea/coffee/milk etc provided for overnight stay. PLUS chocolates hand-made by host's husband! We stayed overnight twice, on way to/from Scottish Highlands: Carlisle almost exactly half-way between south London and Kyle of Lochalsh.
Perfectly located for central Carlisle. Be aware it is a townhouse so do t expect huge gardens and total silence. It is literally a two minute walk to the Lanes Shopping Centre and central district.
The property is immaculate. With very high quality bathroom products (better than most hotels).
Good Wi-Fi for working on, tea/coffee/cafetière with real coffee in the room. Perfect wake up.
Great breakfast also.
The hotel was located in a nice quiet location. There was a dog bed and dog biscuits out when we arrived in hotel room, thought that was a nice touch. Friendly helpful staff. Very nice food and drinks served here. Within a trendy dining area. Great to bring your dogs here too, with nice walks in the area and would like to of used the train into Carlisle but unfortunately, there were no trains running!
Clean and spacious, better than the photographs, that's for sure! Beds were very comfortable.
Thoughtful touches around the place that made it welcoming and cosy. Absolute bargain for the price I paid. Dalton is a very picturesque village.
I have a relative who has moved to Carlisle and I will be recommending this place to the rest of the family for anytime they want to visit.
The hotel is located in the center of Carlisle, which was ideal. That brings a disadvantage of noisy people at all hours, obviously out of the hotel control. The carparking is free just at the rear of the hotel which was great. Nice old hotel, looks like it's kept clean and looked after.
The hotel's location is excellent for a stay in Carlisle, and for travel by bus or train thereafter to areas further afield. The hotel is clean throughout the public areas as was the bedroom. All staff we met were welcoming and friendly. The breakfast was very good.
The hotel is in Carlisle city centre, so it is in a very good location. It ls also very close to a large supermarket as well. The room itself was very comfortable, and it was also on the top floor of the building, so there wasn't much noise from the bar as well
The lady who did our check-in was just fantastic and really nice to talk. The breakfast was excellent and well cooked. The room was clean like a 5-star hotel and the bed was just really soft and cozy. I think it was the best stay I've ever had in the UK.
The staff and breakfast were absolutely lovely. Fantastic very pet friendly hotel at no extra cost.
Monty my 12 year old cat and I will definately be back.
Also literally 2 mins walk from train station as well as Carlisle centre.
We have stayed here previously and the staff, food and rooms are reliably very good. The attractive hotel is in a great location close to all amenities. Carlisle city centre just 20 mins walk or a 5 minute drive.
The room was not dirty.
The location was convenient to getting to Carlisle centre and there was a large car park which could be used free of charge when staying at the hotel.
Arguably Carlisles finest historical hotel - stayed here a few times in the past. I get a budget room only and just sleep there. I've always been happy with the hotel and staff.
Breakfast was good, as was evening meal. Room was large spacious and very comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was very clean throughout.
